Nutrition and meal planning

Water makes up around 60% of our body. Staying properly hydrated matters just as much as eating well.

Why it is essential

  • It carries nutrients around the body.
  • It helps regulate body temperature.
  • It supports digestion and the removal of waste.

How much to drink

The usual recommendation is 1.5 to 2 litres of water a day, and more in hot weather or during exercise. Thirst, urine colour (pale is a good sign) and tiredness are all useful indicators.

Water is still the best drink: keep sodas and sweetened juices to a minimum, as they are loaded with hidden sugars.

Key takeaway: drink regularly throughout the day rather than waiting until you feel thirsty. Water first!
