First things first: this course is informational and does not replace the advice of a healthcare professional. It gives you general reference points to better understand what you eat.
The three main families
Our body draws its energy from three macronutrients, each with a specific role:
- Protein — builds and repairs muscle, skin and hair (meat, fish, eggs, pulses).
- Carbohydrates — the preferred fuel for the body and the brain (grains, bread, rice, fruit).
- Fats — essential for hormones and for absorbing certain vitamins (oils, avocado, nuts and seeds).
None of them is « bad »: what matters is balance and quality. Favour wholegrain carbohydrates, healthy fats and a variety of protein sources.
Key takeaway: protein, carbohydrates and fats complement one another. A balanced plate contains a little of each.
